The 5th workshop of the China Clean Transportation Partnership (CCTP) “How to improve the safety of electric vehicles using policy and regulation,” was successfully held in Beijing on January 21, 2019. The workshop was co-hosted by China Automotive Technology and Research Center, Beijing Office, a founding member partner of the CCTP. Twenty-eight experts and scholars from 18 organizations in the clean transportation sector joined the workshop and had a discussion on “The causes and responsibilities of electric vehicles safety problem as well as how to efficiently improve the safety of electric vehicles by using policy and regulation.”

Director of NEVs Battery Industry Research Lab of CATARC, Dr. Fang Kaizheng, made a first speech. In his speech, the phenomenon, features, factors, current control measures and further recommendation on electric cars safety incidents were included. CCTP Secretariat and Project Manager of Innovation Center for Energy and Transportation, Ms. Wang Wenwen shared the research results of consumers’ attitude towards safety issue of electric vehicles and some real stories of EV owners.

The discussion session was led by Mr. Cai Guoqin, Deputy Chief Engineer of CATARC, Beijing Office. Prof. Lu Languang from State Key Laboratory of Automotive Safety and Energy gave a depth analysis from a technical perspective, on the safety issues regarding electric vehicles such as battery fire.
